Honey Calcite: Color, Cleavage, Fluorescence & Locality Differences
“Honey calcite” is a collector and trade term for calcite showing warm golden, amber, champagne or orange tones. The color does not define a separate mineral species, but it can make calcite especially attractive for display.
Crystal clusters vs cleavage specimens
Some pieces show natural crystal faces and clustered growth, while others emphasize calcite’s strong rhombohedral cleavage. Both can be collectible for different reasons.
Locality changes the character
Our inventory includes honey calcite from the Comstock Lode and Virginia City area of Nevada, Mexico, Utah and additional matrix specimens. Color, crystal size and associated minerals vary noticeably between them.
Fluorescent honey calcite
One Utah specimen in our catalog also fluoresces under UV, adding a second visual mode beyond its warm daylight color.

What to compare
Look at translucence, luster, crystal habit, matrix, fluorescence, damage, locality and overall composition rather than relying on color alone.
