Purple Fluorite Cubes: Why Fluorite Naturally Forms Geometric Crystals

Fluorite is famous for its cubic crystal habit. The geometry comes from the mineral’s internal crystal structure, which commonly expresses itself as flat square faces meeting at right angles.

Color can vary widely

Fluorite occurs in purple, green, yellow, blue, colorless and multicolored forms. Trace impurities and structural effects can influence the final color.

A Mexican example

Our current 2.5 oz Mexican specimen carries numerous purple fluorite cubes across a sparkling matrix.

Collector criteria

Sharp cube edges, transparency, color zoning, luster, matrix contrast and intact crystal faces are all worth examining.
