A find from The Hidden Bazaar
Calcite Crystal Cluster | Comstock Lode, Nevada | 30.5 oz
$175.00
A substantial natural calcite specimen from the historic Comstock Lode Mining District near Virginia City, Nevada. Translucent to milky calcite crystals emerge across an earthy, iron-stained matrix, with detailed close-up structure and a raw hydrothermal-district character.
- Mineral: Calcite crystal cluster on iron-stained matrix
- Weight: 30.5 oz (865 g / 1.91 lb)
- Locality: Virginia City, Storey County, Nevada — Comstock Lode Mining District
- Geological age: Approximately 10–15 million years old (specimen information supplied with the piece; precise growth age of the individual crystals is not separately documented)
- Condition: Natural, unpolished collector specimen
Geology: Comstock mineralization formed when hot, mineral-rich fluids moved through fractures in volcanic rock. As these fluids cooled, minerals including calcite crystallized in open spaces; iron oxides contribute the warm brown to ochre matrix staining visible here.
Care: Calcite is relatively soft (Mohs 3). Handle by the matrix, avoid impacts, acids, ultrasonic cleaners and household chemicals. Dust gently with a soft dry brush.
Metaphysical note: In spiritual traditions, calcite is associated with clarity, grounding and focus. These are beliefs only and are not scientific or medical claims.
