A find from The Hidden Bazaar
Western U.S. Hematite & Goethite Iron-Oxide Specimen – 18.7 oz
$49.99
A substantial 18.7 oz Western U.S. iron-oxide collector specimen with striking dark steel-gray metallic surfaces, radiating fibrous textures, and rugged red-brown weathered matrix. This one-of-a-kind display specimen exhibits lustrous, wavy mineral growth with naturally sculpted cavities and patches of pale crystalline material. The visual appearance is consistent with a hematite-rich and/or goethite-rich assemblage, although the exact iron-oxide mineral species and the specular hematite variety have not been confirmed by testing.
Specimen Details
- Working identification: Hematite–goethite iron-oxide mineral assemblage (provisional photographic identification)

Geological Character
Hematite can form shiny metallic, specular, botryoidal or fibrous-radiating textures, while goethite commonly forms dark, fibrous, rounded and earthy masses. Their weathering products may contribute the red-brown tones observed here. A streak test can distinguish red/reddish-brown hematite streak from yellowish-brown goethite; without such testing the precise mineral mixture remains unverified.
Traditional Metaphysical Associations
Folklore only, not scientifically established: Hematite is traditionally associated with grounding, focus and stability; goethite with reflection, patience and emotional balance.
Care
Store dry, keep away from acids, and avoid aggressive cleaning, polishing, or impact that may damage delicate metallic textures. Wash hands after handling and avoid inhaling dust.
Curated by The Hidden Bazaar. Reported locality and age are not independently verified, and mineral classification is provisional.
