Septarian Nodules Explained: Cracks, Calcite & Madagascar Specimens
Septarian nodules are concretionary stones cut by internal cracks that were later filled with minerals such as calcite. When polished or opened, they can reveal bold geometric patterns and crystal-lined cavities.
How septarian forms
After a nodule forms within sediment, shrinkage or stress can create fractures. Later mineral-rich fluids fill those openings, producing contrasting veins and pockets.
A Madagascar example
Our current 11.3 oz polished Madagascar septarian nodule contains a sparkling druzy calcite pocket inside the patterned host.

Why collectors like septarian
Septarian combines geology, lapidary polish and crystal cavities in one specimen. Each piece reveals a different fracture pattern.
